MAS flights in and out of Heathrow to be retimed due to poor weather

The Star reported that Heathrow Airport cancelled 30% of its flights Sunday to cope with heavy snowfall overnight and possible freezing fog at Europe's busiest passenger air hub.

The airport has worked out a revised flight schedule for Sunday with all airlines to minimise disruption caused to passengers by the poor weather as a result of heavy overnight snowfall.

Two MAS flights affected include its MH4 flight on Sunday, which was scheduled to depart KLIA for London at 10.45am. It has been re-timed to depart at 5.35am Monday (Feb 6) and arrive in London at 11.05am the same day.

“The return flight MH1 of Sunday, scheduled to depart London Heathrow for KLIA at 10pm, has also been re-timed to depart at 1.50pm Monday, and arrive at KLIA at 10.10am Tuesday.

“Customers are advised to log on to www.malaysiaairlines.com and view the UK travel alerts' updates or call Malaysia Airlines' 24 hours toll-free number 1300 88 3000 (within Malaysia) or +603 7843 3000 (from outside Malaysia) for the latest information on this situation,” the statement added.

Malaysia wins seven Asian travel awards

Malaysia swept seven Asian awards at the prestigious World Travel Awards 2009’s regional finals gala ceremony here Saturday in London.

While Malaysia Airlines bagged Asia’s Leading Airline award, Resorts World Genting scooped Asia’s Leading Family Resort and Asia’s Leading Casino Resort titles.

Tourism Malaysia’s “Malaysia: Truly Asia” tagline was also voted Asia’s Leading Marketing Campaign during the star-studded function at Grosvenor House, a JW Marriot Hotel, in London’s Mayfair.

Two other titles – Asia’s Leading City Hotel and Asia’s Leading Design Hotel – went to Hilton Kuala Lumpur while Asia’s Leading Airport Hotel award went to Pan-Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport Hotel.

Last MH91 MAS flight out of New York

The 19-hour MH91 flight which took off from New York to Kuala Lumpur at 10pm on Thursday was Malaysia Airlines’ farewell flight from the Big Apple as Malaysia’s national carrier has decided to suspend its Kuala Lumpur - New York route from Oct 1 due to a drop in demand following the global economic crisis.

As the plane prepared for take-off from the Newark Airport, it was given a water salutation normally reserved for aircraft making their debut at an airport.

Onboard were a total of 188 passengers including eight members from the Malaysian national darts team who had just won a bronze medal at the World Darts Championship in North Carolina.

With the suspension of this KL - New York direct flight, direct access to the US has now been reduced to just the KL - Los Angeles flight.

The New York - Kuala Lumpur flight has been operating since 1998, initially transiting in Dubai and since Nov 2004, in Stockholm.

MAS super low fares are back

Malaysia Airlines all-inclusive low fares are back with tickets to Britain and Europe up for grabs.

From Feb 2 to 15, a one-way trip to London starts from RM1,450 while flights to Frankfurt, Rome and Stockholm are going as low as RM1,500 one-way.

“We are delighted to extend our low fares to Britain and Europe due to demand from customers,” said MAS commercial director Datuk Rashid Khan in a statement.

The low fares are also extended to various destinations in Australia, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Dhaka, Chennai, Bangalore. Hyderabad, Jakarta. Yogjakarta, Surabaya, Ho Chi Minh, Cebu, Phuket, Siem Reap, Phnom Penh and Singapore.

The travel period is from March 2 to Aug 31 for all destinations except Australia and Europe (travel period is March 18 to Aug 31). The fares are only available on-line.

Lowest MAS domestic fares

PETALING JAYA: For the first time, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is offering the lowest fares for all its domestic destinations with prices starting from RM39 nett.

Customers can also enjoy other all-time low fares from RM69 nett for all flights from or to Kuala Lumpur and to all destinations in Sabah and Sarawak.

The special fare is also available from Johor Baru to Kuching.

MAS senior general manager (network and revenue management) Dr Amin Khan said they were offering their best deals ever for domestic routes with 250,000 seats up for sale.

The seats would be on sale for two days from tomorrow on MAS’ website www.malaysiaairlines.com.my and the travel period is between Feb 5 and Aug 31.
