Malaysia Participating in Earth Hour, Sat., March 28, 2009

In support of Earth Hour, lights will be out in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan on Sat., March 28 for one hour starting 8:30pm.

Earth Hour is an annual event that World Wide Fund for Nature/World Wildlife Fund (WWF) started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007 to get households and businesses to turn off their lights for an hour to raise awareness on climate change.

Malaysia is joining the effort this year. So far, 1,189 cities and towns have pledged their support to Earth Hour 2009 and the aim is to get one billion votes to be presented during the meet in Copenhagen for the United Nations Climate Change conference in December.

On the local front, World Wildlife Foundation Malaysia hopes to get at least five million people to take part in the programme. Let's do our small part to help our planet. If we don't, who will!

  1. Did you end up switching off at all? I didn't :o) I reckon it is worth saving power constantly rather than symbolicly. You know those offices, they don't switch off their computers when they go home, what a waste of energy.

  2. I get your point, Ai Shiang. I'm not in the habit of leaving appliances on when not in use so basically, there wasn't anything that needed to be switched off.

I think I can understand the logic of leaving computers on in the office. It's better to leave them on because having them on and off on a daily basis may cause more wear-and-tear. Besides, sometimes they need to be left on to run jobs overnight. However, printers are switched off though (in my office) because they are more ruddy. Yes, there are cost-savings involved when equipment is switched off.

  4. Robin, I get what you are saying. Probably that (candle burning) is the lesser of the two evils. You think? I didn't light any though, if you must know. I leave that for candlelit dinners. haha..

Were you not able to access my main blog again? Please tell me.. or would you rather come here (for more peace and quiet perhaps)? Eh?

Whichever works fine for me, you know. Thank you for visiting and keeping in touch. I appreciate that very much.
