After a spate of ill-treatment of domestic workers by their employees, Indonesia imposed a temporary ban on their citizens coming to work as domestic workers in Malaysia. This is not something Malaysia is proud of. Besides, a ban would mean that many households here would have to bear with not having the services of house-help.
Recruitment agencies in Indonesia have been training workers over the past two months in anticipation of the lifting of the ban. Indonesian labour agents expect to despatch 1,000 domestic workers every month to Malaysia after the republic lifts the two-year moratorium.
