Shisha declared haram (forbidden) for Muslims

Yesterday, the Fatwa (Edicts) Committee of the National Council for Islamic Affairs declared that shisha or waterpipe smoking is 'haram' (forbidden) for Muslims.

Committee chairman Tan Sri Dr Abdul Shukor Husin said Muslims were also prohibited from providing shisha-smoking services or any activity associated with shisha.

"Shisha is clearly harmful to health; it is a wasteful activity that is categorised as a bad or despicable thing that all Muslims should avoid," said Abdul Shukor.

Abdul Shukor explained that shisha would have a huge detrimental effect in terms of the health of the individual, national economic growth and shaping of the future generations.

This is a step in the right direction encouraging nurses to specialise and in the process enabling them to enjoy monthly cash incentives.

SHAH ALAM: More specialist nurses will enjoy monthly cash incentives, as the government bids to encourage more nurses to specialise in 26 fields of healthcare.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said there was a shortage of specialist or special care nurses, with only 21,814 nurses having post-basic qualifications from a total of 96,598.

To encourage them to specialise, he said the government had expanded the list of critical care and clinical specialisation to 26 fields from the initial 18.

Liow said a post-basic certificate was equivalent to an advanced diploma, and the added skills and knowledge would help nurses care for their patients better.

Senior citizens to get exemption at governmentt hospitals

Good news for senior citizens..

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has announced that senior citizens (aged 60 and above) will be exempted from paying the RM5 registration charge for specialist outpatient treatment at all government clinics and hospitals from May 1.

Najib said this was in addition to the exemption from paying the RM1 registration charge at all government hospitals and clinics, including the 1Malaysia clinics that was extended to them this year.

Besides this, he announced that they would also be entitled to a 50% discount for admission to third-class wards.

“With the reduction, the maximum charge at the third-class ward will be RM250 per admission,” he said when launching the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council’s 1Malaysia low risk maternity centre at Precinct 8 here yesterday.
